In May 2008 Grey Horse Tavern opened its doors. Calling Bayport, Long Island its home, GHT set up shop in a lovingly restored landmark building that has been a tavern ever since 1868. In a place drenched with history, owners Irene Dougal and Linda Ringhouse hoped to bring the past very much into the present, with a focus on good old fashioned hospitality and fresh, hearty, homemade food.
The food was to be wholesome and eco-conscious, composed of locally sourced, humanely raised and sustainable ingredients. The atmosphere was to be warm and cozy, with both locals and destination diners feeling as if they’d sat down at their grandmother’s table for Sunday dinner.
The idea behind GHT was clear: to serve excellent food the way food should be; always made from scratch, enjoyed slowly, shared and celebrated. And so Grey Horse Tavern was born.
